Hey guys.. I posted a similar note on soundcard but recieved no answer..
maybe some of you can help.
I've just started making patches & am constantly replacing the
stock drums -- I recently added that new 808 set & noticed that after
loading, I'm missing the patches in the upper registers... anyone know
why? the patches in the ultrasnd.ini are in the proper directory, &
Cakewalk DOESN'T say that the songs to big to load the patches (I normally
load my entire drum setup w/a midi file) -- if I use the old ultrasnd.ini
(w/o the larger replacements) everything works fine, which seems to say
that there's not enough memory, but nothing tells me this... on a similar
note, as I load more patches (say a bass & a synth) I lose more and more
patches from the upper register (moving downwards) -- again, I'm not
getting any "too big to fit in mem" messages.. which seems odd...

any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

I am using Cakewalk Pro for Windows and I am having problems w/ the GUS
dropping events at random. This occurs mostly during fast passages. Like,
16th notes at 150 bpm and stuff like that. It just skips over some notes.
Any ideas on what is causing this? Also, if I decide to use the MIDI port
instead of the GUS synth, do you think I will continue to have the same
problems? Is this a problem w/ the GUS drivers or Cakewalk? Thanks. Later...
 - Dave

Well, the header says most of it....
A few questions:

1) Are there any GUS 'mod'-players that support Oktalyzer? I've got a
bunch of these and no player I've got will play 'em... I've tried Modus,
MDP, Metal, Inertia Player etc...

2) Am I blind or is there no documentation for Modus on the GUS0038
disks? Modus is too buggy, too limited and without docs, useless...

3) I'm in a composing frame of mind, but cannot choose between writing in
a tracker or going the full hog and attempting MIDI... I've written stuff
tracker-style for a while, but since I got my GUS I have an inkling to
use the MIDI. Any comments?

4) Are there any trackers that use GUS-patches?

5) Talking of patches, is there a quick patchreviewer availible?
Something that you can use to quickly scan a directory of patches to find
the good ones? Using patchmaker is longwinded....

Any comments appreciated.

Nick

Subject: String Patches

I would be grateful if someone posted string patches (violin, viola,
cello) a little better than those that come with GUS.

Incidentally, it would be convenient if all patches were put in, say,
/gravis/patches instead of sometimes occurring in /submit and elsewhere.
Also, I suppose it would be impossible to have an automatic post on the
digest each day of whatever patches are in stock.

The Bosendorfer piano patch sounds good, though I tweaked it a
little with Patch Maker. Thanks to its originator. Since it is
950K, is there any way to add another K or so to the GUS ram?
